Realism emphasizes accurate details, smooth surfaces, bright colors, and a strict adherence to perspective. Realism art movement is an artistic style that focuses on the accurate depiction of life. This includes portraying everyday people in mundane activities, often times with a social message. Famous Realist painters include Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot, Gustave Courbet and Honoré Daumier. Surrealism
Surrealism, an artistic movement popularized in the 1920s. This style relies on the use of imagination and dream-like symbolism to create fantastical images that can often seem nonsensical. Unusual juxtapositions of common objects are typical features of Surrealist works. One of the most famous surrealist painters is probably Salvador Dali. Dali was a Spanish Surrealist artist best known for his strange and dream-like paintings. His most famous surrealist works include 'The Persistence of Memory', 'Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening', and 'The Discovery of America by Christopher Columbus'. These paintings depict images that are often fantastical, such as melting clocks and mysterious landscapes.
Abstract Art
Abstract art is a form of non-representational painting that allows for creative freedom. It seeks to explore emotions or ideas rather than natural forms and includes things like geometric shapes, gestural brush strokes, bright colors, and dynamic patterns. Abstract art is a type of artwork that does not depict recognizable objects, figures, or scenery. It instead relies on the use of shape, color, line, and texture to create compositions that can evoke powerful emotions and communicate complex ideas without the need for representational forms. The purpose of abstract art is to allow viewers to draw their own meaning and interpretation from the work, providing a unique and individualized experience with each viewing.
Pop Art
Pop Art is another 20th century artistic style defined by its use of imagery from popular culture like comic books, advertisements, celebrities, product packaging, etc. Often these elements are used in order to challenge cultural norms or spark conversations around topics such as consumerism or gender roles. Pop art has been a huge part of the art world, featuring some of the most recognizable figures in history. Some of the most famous pop artists are Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Keith Haring. Andy Warhol's artwork includes "Campbell's Soup Cans" and "Marilyn Diptych", while Roy Lichtenstein's artwork includes "Drowning Girl" and "Whaam!" Futurism
Futurism is a forward-thinking movement developed in Italy at the beginning of the 20th century. This style values speed, energy and technology and depicts those concepts through chaotic lines and intense colors designed to convey motion or revolution. Some of the most famous Futurism paintings are Umberto Boccioni's "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space", Gino Severini's "Dynamic Hieroglyphic of the Bal Tabarin", and Filippo Tommaso Marinetti's "The Street Lightening".
Cubism
Cubism was a movement founded in Paris during the early 1900s.Pablo Picasso is widely credited with the development of cubism, a revolutionary art style in the early 20th century. He used geometric shapes and lines to create his iconic works, often breaking up and rearranging facial features to achieve a fractured look. His pioneering approach redefined painting and sculpture and influenced generations of modern artists. Cubism allowed Picasso to explore the concept of time within his work, making each piece an ongoing narrative between the past and present. His use of color, texture, and light all contributed to this dynamic new style that still captivates viewers today. Its artwork features flattened faces, geometric shapes and overlapping planes which attempt to portray multiple points of view simultaneously while rejecting traditional approaches like perspective and chiaroscuro.
Impressionism
Impressionism emerged as an influential art style during the late 19th century when artists began experimenting with short brushstrokes intended to capture light rather than details. Monet’s famous work "Impression: Sunrise" gave this approach its name due to his impressionistic portrayal of sunrise light reflecting off water onto nearby boats and buildings. Impressionism was an art movement of the late 19th century that focused on depicting light and shadow in order to capture a fleeting moment in time. Impressionist paintings are often characterized by bold colors, broad brushstrokes, and blurred details. Famous impressionists include Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, and Alfred Sisley.
Dadaism
Dadaism was an artistic reaction against the violence caused by World War 1 as well as any concept associated with nationalism or political structure in general. Dada artwork uses chaos, irony and nonsense symbols in order to represent anarchy without being explicitly confrontational about it..
Expressionism
Expressionism focuses more on emotional expression than visual accuracy so subjects can often be distorted in order to communicate mood or emotion effectively through color and line choice alone..
Postmodernism
Finally there’s Postmodernism which rejects rigid conventions instead favoring plurality across mediums like installation art sculpture painting video performance etc It also embraces themes such as globalization environmental sustainability multiculturalism post-colonial studies etc which were seen as too controversial before this era
